Counselling Gloucester

Welcome, my name is Nicola. I am an integrative counsellor, this means that I have studied more than one counselling theory. In my case, psychodynamic and person centred. I work in Gloucester, Stroud, Stonehouse, Cheltenham, Dursley.

I have over 12 years experience of counselling, and prior to this worked with children as a Specialist Teaching assistant and Learning Mentor. I have also learned some CBT and solution focused techniques, to help with anxiety in particular. When working with children, I have trained in some play therapies to enhance my work with young people.

I offer emotional and psychological support through counselling, encouraging you to live with confidence, hope and determination.

My aim is to help you to achieve a healthy adjustment to your worries, as well as to encourage you to develop specific coping strategies and skills, to enable you to manage the impact of your issues upon your life.

I gained my integrative, (psychodynamic and person-centred counselling diploma in 2010. Psychodynamic believes that we have an unconcsioius mind called the subconscioius and that feelings held in the unconscious mind are too painful to be faced. This causes us to create defences, such as denial, in order to protect ourselves.

Person centred means that I am able to be with you and listen to you in a non-judgmental way, helping you to cope with whatever you wish to bring or talk about.

I have also learned some CBT techniques, and have further trained as a child counsellor and supervisor.

I am able to work with anyone of any age, and have the added benefit of being able to travel to your home, school or work place. If however you would prefer to be seen in a neutral room, I have access to a lovely room in Quedgeley, Gloucester.

For children, I am able to offer counselling through different mediums, including sand play, drawing and Lego therapy. This can be individually with the child, or with parents/carers also.

I am continually improving my skills and knowledge through further training, in order to help as many individuals as possible to manage their emotional well being. I am particularly interested in working with children and families, in helping them to cope in times if crisis, ensuring that they remain safe, by putting a safety plan in place.

I am a good listener, understanding what my clients need, in order to progress and learn to feel better in themselves.

If you would like to know more or book an appointment, please send me a message.

Online therapy

I am able to offer online therapy via Zoom if required, so that you can access counselling in a safe environment to yourself, (and used this method as my main platform during lock down.)

With children, this could also include drawing activites.
