Specialisations

As well as specializing in managing stress and anxiety, grief, anger management, confidence building and communication issues, I also specialize in assisting clients who have been sexually abused in the past. I am not an emergency service so please read through to the end of this section if you have been sexually abused very recently.

Historic sexual abuse can have long lasting affects.  Sometimes it seems that the events are forgotten and then suddenly, even decades later, a reminder (a trigger) can bring the memories back again.  Or for some clients the memories never go away and may appear as intrusive thoughts or nightmares: There are many different symptoms that can be experienced and these are all normal responses to those abnormal events or event.  This is called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD.

Emotional regulation skills can be useful to learn at the start of therapy, to make your life more manageable and to re-train your brain to respond differently to stressors, all at your own pace.
Then we can address the changes needed in the areas of your life that have been affected such as personal relationships and with inteactions with others, employment, assertiveness and confidence and the relationship with yourself - all without talking about the traumatic event unless you choose to.
It is possible to lead a normal life again! PTSD does not have to rule your life.

If you have been recently sexually abused, please seek help as soon as you feel able, calling one of the help lines below.  Reach out to a supportive family member or a friend if possible. Kinowing that you are not alone with this, and that you have support, can make a huge difference in your recovery - we are social beings, and even though no one was able to stop that event/ events from happening to you, positive human interactions at this time can help re-gain your trust in human nature and calm your nervous system so that post traumatic stress is less likely to occur in future. So please reach out. Here are some numbers to call, or if you are in danger and need urgent medical assistance, call 999

Rape Crisis can help you explore your rights and options, whether or not you want to go to the police, which is your choice. Free call 0808 500 2222 or on their website you can choose to have an online chat.
