Counselling and Therapy North London

About me

Life can seem stuck, overwhelming or isolating, but you don’t have to face it alone. I work with clients who are looking for warm and collaborative therapy, for effective tools, easier presence or deeper reflection. I offer a place to feel genuinely supported, as we work towards meaningful change.

At the heart of therapy is the power of genuine human connection. Awareness and growth are found through established techniques, and driven by the intellectual and intuitive understanding that emerges when two people truly meet and open. In a good therapeutic relationship, you’ll feel deeply seen and encouraged. A place to express and follow whatever is, without expectation or judgement.

I work with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Emotional wellbeing: Managing anxiety, insecurity, overwhelm or burnout.
  • Mental health: Addressing depression, stress, ADHD, addiction, self-criticism, or self-care.
  • Identity and confidence: Low self-esteem, trust of experience or overcoming limiting beliefs.
  • Relationships: Improving communication, authenticity, intimacy, and family issues.
  • Trauma and loss: Navigating bereavement, trauma, chronic illness, and life transitions.

My approach is integrative, reflecting our individuality, complexity and diversity. I’ll meet you where you are, emotionally and relationally, and focus on helping you to understand and resolve difficulties and resistance. I'll draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Self-compassion and care: Using Person-Centred Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we might explore how to cultivate genuine kindness, openness, and understanding.
  • Building resilience: Internal Family Systems (IFS) might allow us to work on identifying and integrating your different parts, towards more trust, rest and self-led action.
  • Your mind-body connection: Gestalt Therapy and mindfulness may help us to explore the interplay between your thoughts and feelings, fostering greater awareness, choice and peace.
  • Exploring life’s meaning: With Existential Therapy, we could explore broader questions of purpose, freedom, responsibility identity, helping to find authenticity and greater alignment.
  • Practical tools: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) could offer strategies to manage stress, find clearer thinking or shift unhelpful or outdated patterns.

You'll set the goals and I’ll listen, before asking questions, offering perspectives and giving constructive challenge. I’ll help to guide your reflection and expression, and to explore and articulate ideas. Therapy should be engaging, supportive and useful, something we'll keep an eye on  My practice is shaped by decades of working closely with people, and guided by values of openness, care, relationship, acceptance, and empowerment. I offer curiosity and commitment to attend to what is in your way.

Specialisations and Expertises

My expertise lies in providing integrative therapy tailored to individuals navigating anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, and trauma. I also have experience supporting clients with ADHD and other neurodiverse conditions, helping them develop practical strategies for daily challenges.

Using approaches such as DBT, ACT, Gestalt Therapy, and IFS, I offer tools to foster resilience, self-compassion, and emotional regulation. The number of sessions needed depends on your goals, but many clients notice progress within 6-12 sessions. For deeper, ongoing work, we can explore a longer-term arrangement.

Most common issues I support people with:

  1. Anxiety and Overwhelm
Whether it’s general anxiety, social anxiety, or feelings of constant worry and stress, I help clients develop practical tools to manage anxious thoughts and regain a sense of calm. We’ll explore underlying triggers and work on building resilience to navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence.

  2. Low Self-Esteem and Self-Criticism
Struggling with self-doubt or a harsh inner critic can impact every aspect of life. I help clients explore the roots of these feelings, fostering self-compassion and confidence. Together, we’ll work on challenging limiting beliefs and cultivating a healthier, more positive relationship with yourself.

  3. Relationship Challenges
From communication breakdowns to navigating intimacy or managing family dynamics, relationships can be complex. I support clients in building healthier connections, improving communication, and understanding attachment styles, whether in romantic, familial, or platonic relationships.

  4. ADHD and Neurodiversity
Living with ADHD or other neurodiverse conditions can present unique challenges, including difficulty with focus, emotional regulation, and self-organisation. I provide tailored strategies to help clients manage these challenges, while also fostering self-acceptance and understanding of how neurodiversity influences their lives.

  5. Trauma and Life Transitions
Whether it’s a past trauma, bereavement, or a major life change such as career shifts or relationship endings, I offer a supportive space to process and heal. Using trauma-informed approaches, we’ll work on building resilience and finding ways to move forward with clarity and strength.

I can’t thank Martin enough

I started therapy, almost 2 months ago and I can definitely say it is much needed, Martin takes his time to listen and makes me understand and deal with my feelings in a different perspective, in those space of 2 months I learnt a lot about my feelings and mental health, and I can’t thank Martin enough, I will 100 percent recommend personal talking therapy to anybody.

Counselling with empathy and warmth

Working with Martin in Supervision, I was impressed by Martin's ability to attune with his clients, working side by side with them with empathy and warmth, and a natural curiosity that makes him easy to talk to. Thoroughly recommend.

Life-changing

The work Martin and I did together was life-changing. Everyone around me noticed the difference between where I started and where I am now. I think what was so helpful was his adaptive approach — many weeks were free form, which was exactly what I needed, especially because it was an hour where I became truly disconnected from my environment and he helped me connect to myself. That said, he knew when a week needed structuring, e.g. a week looking backwards. Mostly, he provided a very safe, empathetic space and asked thoughtful questions and provided validation.

I feel his personal approach is wonderful — I think he creates a safe environment very quickly, he's very thoughtful with his questions and very thorough about recalling things I’ve said. In that sense, he made me feel very listened to and that goes a long way. I was worried I’d get counselling from someone who was quite robotic and I appreciated that he brings his own personality and subjectivity to our sessions. It made the whole process very human and gratifying.

Kind, thoughtful and patient

I have been working with Martin for the past five weeks and have really enjoyed my therapy sessions so far. Martin is really kind, thoughtful and patient, and allowed enough time to build trust before jumping in to anything heavy. I really enjoy how open the sessions are - I don't feel pressured at all to discuss anything in particular, and sometimes we have just chatted about events that week that have bothered me. I've found this method has allowed me to process what is happening in my life currently as well as in the past, which means I feel more aware week-to-week in my daily life, and can discuss what crops up openly without feeling a need to follow a strict agenda for the coming session. Martin is a genuinely interested and caring person, and has made me feel confident to share my feelings and experiences without judgement. He has created a welcoming session that I look forward to each week, and I would really recommend him!
