Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Bedford

Individual Counselling

A Space to Slow Down and Make Sense of Your Inner World

Individual therapy offers a calm, reflective space where you can explore what feels overwhelming, confusing, or difficult to name. Many people come because something in their life no longer feels aligned — emotions feel heavier, patterns repeat, or a part of them is asking for attention. Together, we create room to understand what’s happening beneath the surface.

How I Work

My approach is grounded in psychodynamic and existential thinking. This means we look at the deeper layers of your experience — early relationships, unconscious processes, and the stories you’ve carried through life. I pay attention to how these shape your emotions, choices, and ways of relating today. Our work unfolds at a pace that feels safe and manageable, allowing insight and change to emerge naturally.

Exploring Identity, Culture, and Belonging

Your identity, cultural background, and lived experiences matter. I bring cultural fluency and sensitivity to the therapeutic space, recognising how family histories, migration stories, language, and belonging shape how you move through the world. Therapy becomes a place where all parts of you — including the ones that feel hidden or conflicted — can be seen and understood.

Understanding Patterns and Emotional Responses

Many people seek therapy because they notice recurring patterns: feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure why certain situations trigger strong reactions. Together we explore these patterns with curiosity rather than judgement, helping you understand what they protect, what they express, and what they might be asking for.

A Relationship Built on Trust and Attunement

The therapeutic relationship is central to the work. I offer a steady, non‑judgmental presence where you can speak freely, reflect deeply, and feel supported as you navigate difficult emotions. Over time, this relationship becomes a place where new ways of being can be tried, felt, and understood.

Working at Your Pace

There is no fixed number of sessions. Some people come for a short period to focus on a specific concern; others stay longer to explore deeper themes or long‑standing patterns. Sessions are available online or in person, giving you flexibility and choice in how you engage with the work.

Moving Toward Clarity and Change

Individual counselling is not about quick fixes. It’s about understanding yourself more fully, making sense of your emotional world, and finding ways forward that feel grounded, compassionate, and true to who you are. Together, we work toward greater clarity, resilience, and a deeper connection to yourself.

Online therapy

How Online Therapy Works

A Flexible, Accessible Way to Begin Therapy

Online therapy offers the same depth, care, and attunement as meeting in person, with the added ease of joining from a space that feels comfortable and private for you. It can be especially supportive if you have a busy schedule, mobility needs, or prefer the familiarity of your own environment.

Using Zoom for Secure, Steady Sessions

I use Zoom for all online sessions because it provides a secure and reliable platform. Before each session, you’ll receive a unique link — simply click to join at the agreed time. No account or technical setup is required, just a quiet space where you can speak freely.

A Space That Centres You

Online therapy still allows us to slow down, reflect, and explore what sits beneath your experiences. Many people find that being in their own environment helps them feel more grounded and open, making it easier to connect with their emotions and inner world.

Culturally Attuned and Identity‑Aware

Your cultural background, identity, and lived experiences shape how you show up in therapy. Online work allows us to hold these layers with care, acknowledging the nuances of language, belonging, family histories, and the emotional landscapes you carry.

Safety, Privacy, and Emotional Holding

Your safety — both emotional and digital — is central. Sessions take place in a confidential online room, and I encourage you to choose a private, comfortable space where you can speak without interruption. My role is to offer a steady, non‑judgmental presence as we explore what feels overwhelming, unclear, or in need of attention.

Specialisations and Expertises

1. Emotional overwhelm

I support people who feel flooded by emotions or unsure why certain feelings arise so intensely. Together we slow down and make sense of what sits beneath the surface.

2. Identity & belonging

Questions of who you are, where you fit, and how culture or family shape you are central to the work. I offer a space to explore identity with curiosity and care.

3. Cultural pressures

Many people carry expectations from family, community, or heritage. We explore how these shape your choices, emotions, and sense of self.

4. Low self‑worth

I help you understand the early experiences and internal messages that shaped how you see yourself, and support you in building a more compassionate inner world.

5. Self‑criticism

Harsh inner voices often come from old emotional roles. We explore their origins and work toward gentler, more supportive ways of relating to yourself.

6. Early life patterns

Psychodynamic work helps uncover how early relationships and unconscious processes influence your present‑day reactions, behaviours, and emotional patterns.

7. Anxiety & uncertainty

Whether rooted in past experiences or current pressures, we explore what your anxiety is signalling and how to navigate uncertainty with more grounding.

8. Life transitions

Periods of change can stir up fear, grief, or confusion. I offer a steady space to process transitions and understand what they evoke in you.

9. Relationship patterns

Even in individual therapy, relational dynamics matter. We explore how past relationships shape how you connect, protect, or distance yourself today.

10. Boundaries & safety

I help you understand your needs, set boundaries that honour them, and build a sense of emotional safety within yourself and with others.

Expected Number of Sessions

There’s no fixed number of sessions — each person’s pace and needs are different. Some people come for a short period to focus on a specific concern; others stay longer to explore deeper patterns, early experiences, or identity‑related themes. Sessions are 50 minutes, online or in person, and we decide together what feels supportive and sustainable for your journey.

Most common issues I support people with:

1. Feeling Overwhelmed or Emotionally Stuck

Many people come when life feels heavy, confusing, or difficult to navigate alone. I offer a calm, reflective space to slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and make sense of emotions that feel tangled or hard to hold.

2. Identity, Belonging, and Cultural Pressures

Questions of who you are, where you belong, and how culture or family expectations shape you are central to my work. I hold these layers with cultural fluency, helping you explore identity, language, belonging, and the emotional landscapes you’ve inherited.

3. Low Self‑Worth and Self‑Criticism

Many people struggle with an inner voice that is harsh, demanding, or difficult to quiet. Together we explore where these beliefs began, how they’ve been reinforced, and what it might mean to relate to yourself with more compassion and steadiness.

4. Repeating Patterns Rooted in Early Experiences

Old patterns often show up in the present — in relationships, work, or the way you respond to stress. Through a psychodynamic lens, we explore early relationships, unconscious processes, and the emotional roles you learned to carry, so you can understand and shift what no longer serves you.

5. Anxiety, Uncertainty, and Life Transitions

Periods of change can stir up fear, doubt, or a sense of losing your footing. I support you in navigating transitions with clarity and grounding, helping you understand what these moments evoke and how to move through them with more confidence and care.

Fees

Each session lasts 50 minutes and is priced at £75. I offer online and in-person sessions, with a sliding scale available for those facing financial difficulties.
