Sam | Counsellor and Trauma Therapist
Introduction
I have been working therapeutically with children, young people, and families since 2006, supporting a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
I am a Person-Centred Counsellor with training and experience in trauma-focused CBT, alongside integrative and creative approaches. My work is flexible and tailored to your individual needs, with a strong focus on building a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship.
I take a trauma-informed approach, working with both thoughts and body-based responses to support healing and recovery at a pace that feels right for you. I bring extensive experience from senior and clinical lead roles across social care, education, and mental health services, and now work fully in private practice.
If you are looking for an experienced therapist who offers a calm, collaborative, and trauma-informed approach, I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.
Online therapy
Following an initial call to discuss your needs, we will agree on a regular time and day for your sessions.
Sessions are usually held online via Google Meet. I will send you a secure link before each session, allowing you to join from a private, comfortable space that feels right for you. Your sessions will always take place at the same agreed time and day, creating a consistent and reliable space just for you.
Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly, depending on what works best for you.
Where needed, I am also able to offer telephone sessions as an alternative.

Specialisations and Expertises
My approach is to begin by creating a supportive and trusting relationship, where you feel accepted and safe. I believe this foundation is essential before exploring any difficulties or supervision needs in more depth. We will always move at a pace that feels right for you.
I use a range of therapeutic approaches and tailor our work to your individual needs. In our first session, we will gently explore what has brought you to therapy and talk about how we can work together in a way that feels most helpful and comfortable for you.
Together, we will look at practical strategies to help you manage what you’re experiencing. Only when you feel ready and supported enough to work with these feelings will we move into deeper therapeutic work. You remain in control of the pace throughout.
The number of sessions is flexible and based on your needs. There is no fixed limit, and this can change as our work develops. For trauma-focused therapy, professional guidelines recommend a minimum of 12 sessions, although for some people this may be considerably longer, each person is different.
