Counselling Bournemouth

Feeling overwhelmed, constantly overthinking, or like you’re just getting through the day rather than living it?

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

You might be dealing with anxiety, stress, or low mood, struggling to switch off your thoughts, sleep properly, or feel like yourself.

Perhaps you’re feeling burnt out, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns like people-pleasing, overthinking, or doubting yourself.

Past experiences, including trauma or difficult relationships, can continue to affect how you feel now, leaving you feeling on edge, disconnected, or unsure of who you are or what you need.

Support is available to help you make sense of what’s going on and begin to feel more in control. Using a neurodiversity-affirming, shame- and trauma-informed approach, support focuses on helping you rebuild confidence, set boundaries, and reconnect with yourself.

With a small team of experienced counsellors, support can often be offered quickly, with initial calls available within 48 hours and sessions usually starting within one week.

Appointments are available in-person in Bournemouth & Ferndown, Dorset and also Burbage, Leistershire. Online 1-1 and Couples counselling sessions available throughout the UK, meaning access and support are accessible from the convenience of your own location.

  • Trauma, including sexual abuse, domestic violence, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
  • Bereavement, including pregnancy loss and miscarriage
  • Relationship difficulties and attachment issues

Specialisations and Expertises

You might have been coping for a long time, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep struggling alone.

Support is available for anxiety, stress, low mood, overwhelm, and more complex experiences. There is particular experience in relational trauma, including sexual abuse and domestic violence, and how this can affect trust, self-worth, and relationships.

Neurodiversity-affirming support is offered, with counsellors who have lived experience and specific training in adapting support to individual needs, including those living with chronic illness.

Bereavement counselling offers a compassionate space to process grief, including pregnancy loss and miscarriage. Support is also available for mature students living abroad navigating life changes.

Couples counselling is available in Burbage, LE10, or online for relationship difficulties, conflict, or communication challenges.

Taking the first step can feel difficult, but support is here when you feel ready.

Our Approach

At Place to Talk Therapies, we work integratively. Our team of counsellors don't follow a single rigid model instead, we draw from a range of well-evidenced approaches and tailor the work to you: your history, your nervous system, your pace.

At the heart of our practice is a relational, shame-aware, and somatic way of working. This means we pay attention not just to what you say, but to how you carry what you're going through in your body, your patterns, and the space between you and your therapist. Some of the frameworks we draw from include:

  • Person-Centred Therapy: rooted in unconditional positive regard, empathy, and the belief that you are the expert on your own experience
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) / Parts Work: exploring the different parts of you that may be in conflict, and helping them find more ease
  • Somatic Awareness: bringing gentle attention to the body as a source of information and healing
  • Attachment Theory: understanding how early relational experiences shape the way you connect, protect yourself, and relate to others today
  • Trauma-Informed Practice: working with sensitivity to how trauma lives in the body and nervous system, not just in memory

This isn't therapy-by-formula. It's responsive, human, and grounded in what actually helps.

What to Expect

Sessions are 60 minutes and held weekly or fortnightly, either in person or online. There's no pressure to arrive knowing what you want to say. Many people begin simply by talking  and we find the thread from there. In your early sessions, your therapist will take time to understand what's brought you here, what you're hoping for, and whether you feel like a good fit together.

The therapeutic relationship itself is central to the work  how you meet, how misattunements are repaired, and how trust builds over time all become part of the process. Progress in therapy rarely looks like a straight line. There may be sessions that feel quietly significant, and others that feel uncertain, both have value.
