Yvonne | Counsellor / Grief Counsellor / Grief Coach

Introduction

Hello, I’m Yvonne.

I’m an accredited counsellor and grief coach based in Matlock, specialising in bereavement, anticipatory grief, miscarriages and baby loss, pet losses, and losses connected to major life changes. Over the past four years I’ve supported adults through grief, anxiety, low self‑esteem, depression, anger, relationship difficulties, and the emotional impact of life’s unexpected turns.

Having experienced several personal losses myself, I understand how grief can feel overwhelming, isolating, or strangely numb. This lived experience, combined with my professional training, enables me to offer a calm, compassionate space where you can talk openly, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what you’re carrying.

How I Support You

Grief affects every part of life — emotions, relationships, identity, and the ability to cope day‑to‑day. Many people tell me they feel they must “stay strong”, or that others have moved on while they are still struggling inside. The mask we wear on the outside often hides a great deal of pain.

In our work together, you can speak freely without fear of judgement. I meet you at the point of your struggle, offering empathy, validation, and gentle guidance. Whether your loss is recent or many years ago, we explore it at your pace, helping you find steadier ground and, in time, a renewed sense of hope and purpose.

I support people experiencing:

  • bereavement (recent or long‑term)
  • baby loss and miscarriage
  • anticipatory grief
  • sudden or traumatic loss
  • pet loss
  • life‑change losses such as relationship breakdown, job loss, or major transitions

Why My Sessions Last 60 Minutes

My sessions last a full hour, giving you time to settle into the therapeutic space before diving into difficult emotions. This unhurried beginning helps you feel safe, grounded, and connected.

We also finish gently, allowing you space to compose yourself and return to your day feeling steady, rather than being pushed back into the outside world too quickly. Many clients find this extended time deeply supportive.

I offer both online sessions and in‑person counselling in central Matlock.

Community Support: Daisy, Daisy Grief Café

For the past two years I’ve run a free community grief group in Matlock, offering connection, conversation, and mutual support. We hire All Saints’ Church Hall, which has a car park, and is accessible for all.

Workplace Grief Training & Employee Wellbeing Support

Alongside individual counselling, I work with organisations to improve their understanding of grief and emotional wellbeing in the workplace. I offer:

  • grief‑awareness training for managers and teams
  • staff wellbeing support
  • one‑to‑one counselling for employees
  • group sessions
  • bespoke workshops tailored to your organisation

My background in teaching means I’m confident delivering training, speaking engagements, and educational sessions on understanding grief, self‑care, and supporting others.

Respect for All Beliefs

I welcome clients from all backgrounds and beliefs, and so my sessions have a non-faith based approach. However, if requested Christian-integrated counselling is also offered.

Free 20‑Minute Consultation

If you feel overwhelmed, numb, confused, or unsure where to turn, please don’t struggle alone. I offer a free 20‑minute consultation so you can get a sense of how counselling with me feels before making a commitment.

Online therapy

About my sessions

My sessions last a full hour, giving us time to work at an unhurried pace. Many clients appreciate online sessions from the comfort of their own home, especially on difficult days although I also offer in‑person counselling in Matlock.

Clients often tell me they feel respected, understood, and able to talk about things they’ve never shared before. This process can bring a sense of release, helping you deal with the past, cope with the present and gradually look toward the future with more hope and purpose.

I use an integrated approach to ensure that I meet the specific needs of my clients.

My meetings are held on Micosoft Teams. Many of my clients are not used to online meetings but I provide support to get started and once we've had one or two meetings they love being able to connect online.

I offer a 'free' 20-minute meeting online to allow my clients to meet with me and ask any questions and to see what a session is like before committing to booking with me.

Specialisations and Expertises

My specialist area is grief in all its forms

Grief doesn’t show up in just one way — it can look like sadness, anger, anxiety, loneliness, exhaustion, or feeling unable to cope with everyday life. Many people come to me unsure whether what they’re feeling “counts” as grief, but loss sits underneath far more of our struggles than we often realise.

I support people through a wide range of losses

This includes bereavement, baby loss, miscarriage, anticipatory grief, and losses linked to major life changes. I also work with the quieter, less‑recognised forms of grief — such as disenfranchised grief, grief after complicated relationships, or the deep loneliness that can follow the loss of a long‑term partner.

Grief can also affect how we cope day‑to‑day.

Some people find themselves withdrawing from social life, feeling overwhelmed by anger, or turning to alcohol or other coping strategies just to get through. Others feel stuck because earlier life experiences or past trauma make their grief harder to reach. All of these responses are human, and all of them are welcome in the therapy room.

There’s no set number of sessions.

Some people feel steadier after around eight sessions and feel ready to move forward on their own. Others need longer‑term support, especially when their loss is complex or layered. We work at the pace that feels right for you.

My sessions last a full 60 minutes, giving you time to settle, talk at your own pace, and leave feeling composed rather than rushed. This gentle structure is especially helpful when emotions feel close to the surface.

Grief support within organisations

Alongside individual counselling, I also support organisations who want to look after the wellbeing of their staff. I offer workplace grief training, one‑to‑one support for employees, group sessions and bespoke workshops to help teams understand and respond compassionately to loss and stress.

There are no set rules where grief is concerned

Grief is not something you have to navigate alone. Whether your loss is recent, long‑ago, expected or sudden, I offer a steady, compassionate space to help you make sense of it and find your way forward. There is no set time in which you have to grieve and there are no set rules on how to grieve - we are all different, with varying situations and relationships, and need to find support to meet our own individual needs. I will help you find what that support looks like and you will be the one who makes the choices.

Most common issues I support people with:

My Grief support covers the following areas:

  • recent or long‑ago bereavement
  • sudden or traumatic loss
  • baby loss and miscarriage
  • anticipatory grief
  • pet loss
  • life changes such as relationship breakdown, job loss, or major transitions

Many of my clients feel confused, misunderstood and very alone in these area of loss, and sometiimes as if they're judged for feeling the pain of loss.

I will make you feel validated, and will not judge you, but show compassion, coming alongside you, allowing you to talk freely about your loss. For many people being 'allowed' to talk  about thier loved one openly, without the fear of upsetting someone or being asked to stop, is very comforting and often helps them get out of a stuck place.

Within my grief therapy I address many emotions that are so often misunderstood within grief:

  • anger management
  • numbness and lack of emotions
  • addiction
  • childhood trauma
  • sibling rivalry
