Sophie | Adolescent & Young Adult Counsellor

Counselling Thornbury

Watching your child struggle can be heartbreaking. As a parent myself, I understand the pain and concern that comes with it.

With over 10 years of experience working with young people, I've seen firsthand the unique challenges this generation faces. My specialty lies in addressing emotional regulation, trauma, and anxiety, issues that can hold them back from thriving.

I offer personalised, 1:1 support tailored to each young person's needs. Using evidence-based approaches like DNA-V (Acceptance & Commitment therapy for young people) and Somatic Therapy, we'll work together to identify their goals and develop effective strategies to overcome obstacles. Whether their feeling stuck or hopeless, I'm here to help.

If you're ready to find a way forward, let's get started. Contact me to learn more about my therapeutic approach and schedule a free discovery call. Together, we can discover an open way to a more hopeful future for your family.

Therapuetic Approaches

DNA-V THERAPY
DNA-V stands for Discoverer, Noticer, Advisor, and Values. It's a therapeutic model that helps individuals, especially adolescents and young adults, develop psychological flexibility and resilience. The model focuses on the development of four skills
  • Discoverer: Encourages curiosity, exploration, and openness to new experiences.
  • Noticer: Develops awareness and observation of thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without judgment.
  • Advisor: Helps individuals recognise and step back from unhelpful thought patterns.
  • Valuer: Clarifies core values and uses them as a guide for making choices and setting goals.

DNA-V therapy is helpful for addressing issues such as:
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and low mood
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Relationships and social skills
  • Goal-setting and motivation

SOMATIC THERAPY
Somatic Therapy, focuses on the connection between the body and mind. It helps individuals process and release physical tension stored in the body, often related to traumatic experiences. The model works by:
  • Tracking physical sensations: Paying attention to bodily sensations, such as pain, numbness, or tension.
  • Regulating the nervous system: Helping the body return to a state of balance and calm.
  • Processing traumatic experiences: Gradually releasing stored physical tension related to traumatic events.

Somatic Therapy is helpful for addressing issues such as:
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Emotional regulation and mood stability
  • Self-regulation and resilience

Both DNA-V and Somatic Therapy can be effective approaches for teens struggling with emotional regulation, trauma, and anxiety. These therapies can help your teen develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and coping skills, ultimately improving their overall wellbeing.
