Sarah | Counsellor

Counselling Coleford

Hi, I'm Sarah. I offer short and long-term counselling for adults.

You might already have a clear sense of what you need, or you may not know yet. Both are completely okay. Sessions with me provide a non-judgemental, empathetic space where you are supported to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and to discover your own way forward.

I trained integratively though primarily work from a person-centred perspective. This means I believe you are the expert on your own life and needs. However, I know from personal experience that this internal voice can sometimes feel lost or silenced. I like to work with the person rather than the symptom - I won't offer sticking plaster solutions but instead work with deep curiosity and an aim to support long-term change.

The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work. My approach reflects my personality - calm, compassionate, and genuine - with space for humour alongside gentle challenge. I aim to create a space where you feel safe and heard, meeting you as a fellow human above all else. If this appeals to you then please get in touch.

I welcome you whatever your background - difference and diversity is celebrated here! I invite you to let me know what you need to make counselling an accessible and safe option for you.

Online therapy

Online therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face and often fits more easily around other life commitments.

I generally use Google Meet for online sessions. It is free and easy to access using the web or app versions. You will be given a unique joining link which is recurring and you simply have to click on the same link each session.

I can also use WhatsApp video if this works better for you.

Phone sessions involve me calling you on your preferred number at an agreed time.

Most common issues I support people with:

I have worked extensively in the area of perinatal mental health (transition to and after parenthood) as well as in cancer and hospice settings. I am particularly interested in working with people during periods of transition.

The top five issues I have experience supporting people with are:

Anxiety - a sense of fear, worry and rumination are common but don't have to be endured

Depression - chronic low mood, a feeling of being under a black cloud

Grief - this might be recent or historical, it is never too late to process it

Parenting - perhaps you or a partner are pregnant, you've had a baby, or you are finding parenting an ongoing challenge. I have experience supporting parents at all stages and have lived experience of supporting neurodivergent children who cannot manage in a school setting

Relationships and Family Issues - these inevitably come up for people whatever the 'primary' reason is they seek counselling. I can support you to address them without judgement.

I believe that counselling should be available to everyone and would not want affordability to be a barrier, if you would like to discuss this further please contact me.
