Mark | Counsellor, Newton Abbot

Integrative Counselling Newton Abbot

You will feel relaxed and able to be yourself.  My style is warm, supportive and down to earth. I listen without judgement and offer a respectful, calm space where you can talk, reflect and find new ways forward, in your own time and at your own pace. I am trained in a variety of techniques and styles so together we can always adapt to your personality and situation.

Integrative Counselling means that we don't subscribe to one type of therapy.  I recognise your uniqueness and work with you to find the approach that suits you best.  This process alone is wonderfully affirming - we work together in partnership.

If anything here resonates with you, please send me a message via the "send a message" button.

Specialisations and Expertises

Most experience & training: PTSD/trauma, anxiety, addiction, lack of purpose, drive or meaning on one's life (why am I hear, what am I doing with my life?).  Anxiety, depression, stress. Mindfulness, meditation, spirituality.

Motivational techniques, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt.

The foundation of my practice is Person-Centred throughout: The client knows best but benefits from the empathy and experience of the counsellor.

Most common issues I support people with:

TRAUMA/PTSD/CPTSD

I've been privileged to work with people of various backgrounds and ages including ex-military personnel and younger adults with Complex PTSD (generally due to childhood experiences).

SELF-ESTEEM. SELF-WORTH

This is almost universal in varying degrees, and I do not exclude myself from this category. I therefore feel I am able to be particularly insightful in this area.

GRIEF/LOSS

My charity work with a local hospice provided invaluable experience, for which I will be eternally grateful.

SPIRITUAL, LIFE PURPOSE

The yearning for a more meaningful life, one with purpose, driven by values is a hard-wired human condition.  An extremely common thread with many of my clients is the exploration of meaning, purpose and usefulness.  It may be an adjunct to the main work that the client is doing or it can be the core of their concerns.  The modern discipline of Human Needs and Givens can be very useful in these cases.
