Emma | Interpersonal Psychotherapist - Relationship Therapist

Interpersonal Psychotherapy Nottingham

I’m Emma, a dedicated and compassionate Interpersonal Psychotherapist based in Nottingham. With over 20 years of experience both in the NHS and private practice. I hold a passion for understanding the complexities of human relationships.

I believe that, when they go wrong, relationships can be extremely damaging to our mental health. I have the qualification, knowledge, experience and skill to help people resolve these kinds of problems.

Whether you’re navigating life’s challenges or seeking clarity in your relationships, I’m here to guide you towards a more fulfilling and authentic life.

IPT allows us to explore the roles we play in life and the changes we experience—whether that’s moving from married to divorced, becoming a parent, or facing a loss—and how these transitions shape our identities. IPT also draws on Attachment Theory, which helps us understand the deeper emotional patterns in our relationships and teaches us how to communicate more effectively.

My approach to therapy is rooted in honesty, openness, and trust. I believe in creating a space where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. Together, we’ll work on understanding your unique challenges and developing the skills you need to build self-confidence, set healthy boundaries, and create a life that truly reflects who you are.

This Therapy has a distinct focus on the persons relational patterns, Attachment style and Relationship history.

It’s useful for people who are:

  • Struggling in their current relationship but their partner won’t come to therapy.

  • Recovering from a breakup, divorce, or betrayal.

  • Trying to understand why certain patterns keep showing up in their love life.

  • Preparing for a healthy relationship after a history of difficult ones.

  • Working through attachment issues, fear of intimacy, or trust challenges.

  • Processing relationships with family members or close friends.

  • Exploring how their upbringing or early attachment experiences shape how they relate to others.

Specialisations and Expertises

I offer a range of supportive, evidence-based strategies tailored to help you navigate life’s challenges and improve your mental well-being. Whether you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, or relational difficulties, my services are designed to help you build self-awareness, improve communication, and regain control over your life.

Specialising in areas such as neurodiversity, LGBTQ+ issues, and emotional health, my goal is to provide a safe and compassionate space where we can work together to create meaningful change.

Most common issues I support people with:

As an Interpersonal Therapist, I have work with people who, because of a relationship, have slowly lost confidence, have increasingly began to doubt their worth, found themselves second-guessing every decision, and gradually become shadows of their former selves.

If we continuously feel unheard, invalidated, or unloved, it creates profound internal turmoil, shaping our beliefs about who we are and what we deserve.

It is this circumstance that is the cause of symptoms like depression, low self esteem and other self sabotaging actions.

If you find yourself resonating with this, please understand: you are not alone, and these feelings are not reflections of your true value.

A compassionate therapeutic approach, like Interpersonal Therapy, can help you rebuild self-worth, identify harmful patterns, and develop healthy relational skills.
