Sarah | Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Introduction

As an experienced Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist for adults (18+), I have honed my skills across various clinical settings. I am passionate about working with a diverse clientele. My background includes over three years as an IAPT and CfD counsellor with Mind Barnet/Enfield, over two years as a Qualified NHS Talking Therapies Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (CfD) therapist with Hertfordshire Mind, often supporting clients facing severe depression and anxiety disorders, including issues related to suicidality, self-harm, childhood sexual abuse, addiction and estrangement.

I offer clients a non-judgmental, safe space to process and understand their individual experiences. The work can be open-ended or time-limited.For example, a client could reflect on their childhood and make useful links with how events might effect them in adulthood. Or, a client could  concentrate on one specific goal or symptom the client is currently trying to cope with. My integrative, blended approach both fosters change and grows self-compassion and self-acceptance.
I can listen empathically and offer different perspectives. I collaborate with the client to outline therapeutic goals and can integrate your sessions with tools to help you navigate today’s often fast-paced and unpredictable world.

Starting therapy:

Therapy can be a scary prospect. What do I say? How can I be vulnerable with a stranger? Will it work? These are all normal questions. I intend to, over a few sessions, start to create a trusting working relationship. If a client doesn't know where to start, I can helpfully prompt and guide.

Key aspects of my modality:

Integrative provides a structured, integrative form of psychotherapy that combines elements of CBT and psychodynamic (looking at the past). Sessions might involve cognitive, behavioral, and experiential exercises to break these patterns on a deep emotional level.

Free initial consultation:

I offer a free initial counselling consultation, typically lasting 15-30 minutes via phone or video, allowing you to determine if Space to Change Counselling is the right fit for your needsThe consultation is a brief, exploratory conversation to talk about your reasons for seeking help, understand my approach, and assess comfort, rather than diving into deep, detailed therapy. Asking about your current challenges and a brief history of your mental health are helpful areas to cover during the consultation.

Getting curious:

Often our inner voice, the voice that pops up when we haven’t achieved, haven’t completed, or haven’t communicated, is a harsh inner critic. Do you imagine how life might be if that voice were kind, forgiving and full of love? Do you ask yourself, 'What's wrong with me?', 'why has everyone else got it so together?', 'will it always be like this?'. Therapy can help explore these questions.

Online therapy

Online sessions are offered via Teams to any location within the UK.

Finding a quiet, private space is essential for effective online therapy, ensuring you can speak freely, focus fully, and maintain confidentiality without interruptions. A suitable, secluded area helps you feel emotionally safe and secure while engaging in sessions.
