Jo | Integrative Creative Counsellor
Introduction
- Hi - I’m Jo (she/her) and I’m really glad you’re here. I’m a qualified, accredited counsellor and teacher with many years of experience. I have a Masters in Psychology so you can trust that therapy with me is research and evidence based.
- I offer a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement both online and face to face from my therapy room in Glossop.
- I provide professional counselling for adults and children (11+) experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement and grief. Together, we'll work at your pace to help you feel empowered, build resilience and improve your emotional wellbeing so you can live a confident, balanced and authentic life.
Specialisms
- Bereavement and Grief particularly early parent loss
- Neurodiversity (ADHD/Autism) particularly being diagnosed as an adult or on the pathway
- Life Changing Diagnosis particularly cancer, EDS and endometriosis
- Depression particularly Post Natal Depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder
- Anxiety particularly relating to burnout and overwhelm
- Chronic Pain particularly ways to manage fluctuating energy levels and pacing
Online therapy
Online sessions are 50 minutes and are held over Google Meet or WhatsApp (I can also use Zoom/Skype). I can work with clients worldwide, but this is under the proviso that the agreement is governed by English and Welsh law.
Benefits
Online counselling offers certain benefits:
- You can see your counsellor face-to-face from your computer while engaging in therapy in the comfort of your home. This means no one has to know you are receiving therapy if you do not wish them to know.
- Being able to see your face and body language can lead to greater understanding between us.
- Secure encryption software offers confidentiality and peace of mind.
- Therapy at a time, place and pace that suits you.
- Flexibility to choose the technology you feel is best for you: online or by phone.
Approaches
I draw on a toolbox of proven therapeutic approaches as I do not believe that one approach will support everyone, so our sessions will be uniquely shaped to fit your needs as every individual is different.
The main types of approaches I draw from are:
✨ Creative Approaches - using art, journaling, sand tray, crystals and narrative therapy to access your subconscious. It is still possible to use these online if you think they would benefit you.
✨ Trauma Informed CBT – helping you notice and shift unhelpful thought patterns
✨ Person-Centred – being fully heard and accepted in a safe, non-judgemental space
✨ Psychodynamic – gently exploring how your past affects your present
✨ ACT – allowing acceptance and compassion to move forward with peace and wholeness
