Sheila | Counselling Psychologist

Counselling Psychologist Aylesbury

There are a number of reasons people reach out for counselling. You may be trying to come to terms with abuse in your past or current life. Unsure whether you wish to continue in a current relationship.Struggle with loved ones who do not undertand your different way of seeing and engaging in the world. Are you exhausted or irritated with pushing yourself to always be perfect? Wish you could say no more often without feeling guilty? Feel angry with others for calling you "over sensitive"? Do you feel anxious or sad but don't know why? Struggling to work out what you want in life or what your role is now that things have changed? Feeling lonely but frightened to reach out to others?

If you need to talk to someone else so you can be fully heard, hear yourself and gain a new perspective on your difficulties then counselling may be the answer. I am a counselling psychologist with years of training and experience and will use that to support you. I offer face to face or online sessions either short term or for longer depending on what you decide. We can discuss this in our first session and keep it under your review every session so that you feel in control of your own therapy and I am accomodating your needs.

I value being kind, curious, inclusive, optimistic and non-judgmental. I believe everyone has untapped potential and strength to use to make their lives better. I will offer a safe space where you are free to discuss any subject. I will help you explore your thoughts and feelings so you can make decisions about how you want to now start living a life with more contentment, meaning and purpose.

I know how difficult it can be to start counselling, I will make it as easy as possible by arranging a chat, text or email first and explaining how the first session will be, if you would find that helpful. Alternatively we can book in a first session to start counselling.

If you would like to know more or book an appointment, please send me a message via the send a message - button.

Online therapy

I use Doxy or Microsoft Teams for online sessions.

Qualifications and registrations

I qualified as a Counselling Psychologist over 15 years ago. My training was as follows:

  • BSc Applied Psychology
  • Diploma in Psychology (Conversion for Graduates)
  • MSc Counselling Psychology
  • Post Graduate Diploma in the Practice of Counselling Psychology

I am a registered Counselling Psychologist with the HCPC (The Health and Care Professions Council). I am also a Chartered Psychologist and embrace the British Psychological Society's code of ethics and conduct.

I stay up to date and complete ongoing training. I have a particuar interest in:

1) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which focuses on not battling with your own thoughts, deciding on the values you want to live your life by and coming up with some actions to try out in your life.

2) Schema Therapy looks at patterns of behaviour now and trying to understand them by looking back at their origins in your earlier life. We oftern repeat these patterns time and again as they are our normal and comfortable but do not always make us happy.
