Introduction
"When I started I had no idea who I was, why I felt the way I did or how to handle the relentless feelings of guilt, sadness, anger and pain. I recognise the person I am today and I am proud of her, it has changed my life for all the right reasons."
I work with people who have noticed the same things keep happening. The relationships that go the same way each time. The patterns that repeat. The feelings that show up on cue and won’t be reasoned with. Therapy with me is the work of understanding why — not as analysis, but as something you come to know, in your body, with another person paying close attention.
"I can categorically say I am leaving this year in a better place than I entered it. I am definitely feeling like I know who I am a whole lot more but also more importantly how to care for me. Although this year has been challenging, I am enjoying my everyday life so much more. I don’t feel as anxious and being able to mediate my feelings has meant that I have been able to excel at work. I am choosing myself more and have the courage to put healthy boundaries in place.”
I have extensive experience and training in working with trauma and its lasting impact including if you struggle with self harm or thoughts of suicide.
For some clients the trauma they bring is a single life changing event, like a sexual assault or a car accident. For other clients their reason for coming is harder for them to describe, just symptoms they can't explain - anxiety, depression, overwhelming emotions like anger or sadness. However you arrive, my approach is curious, educated, compassionate and safe. Gently, as we talk, I will pull on the threads you offer me so we can understand together what is going on for you.
"It makes me emotional writing this. The time spent together helping me learn about myself, understanding my feelings and working through my trauma and depression is priceless. You saved me, you saved my life. I cannot thank you enough for the impact you have had on my life and my children's lives and their future."
I believe the relationship between you and your therapist is the single most important factor. In our 20 minute introduction, I'll ask you a little bit about yourself, whether you've had counselling before and what has brought you to it now. Some clients have had therapy before but it didn't quite connect with what they needed, for others it's their first experience. No matter what brings you to therapy with me, it's always a privilege to be trusted with your memories, deepest thoughts and feelings.
"Counselling has changed my perspective on life. The listening and understanding and the gentle way that I was made to realise that it was not all my fault. I can't tell you how much it has helped me and has enhanced my relationship with my adult children".
How it works
Based on what you tell me in our introduction, I'll talk about how I see us working together and if you're happy we'll arrange your first session in person or online. We can do the same session time consistently or if your schedule changes, we can work times around this. Therapy is open ended and your only commitment is to your next session.
"My experience was eye opening but also overwhelming. You really understood and supported me during the hardest times of my life. I am very grateful."
My dog (Rocky) will happily sit in my therapy room with you, which some of my clients love. For others who would prefer him to be absent, he is never offended.
Location
My counselling room is in the village of Penn, handy for Hazlemere, Beaconsfield, High Wycombe, Holmer Green, Flackwell Heath, Loudwater and surrounding areas. I have a dedicated parking space outside.
I am BACP registered and offer open ended therapy to adults and young people aged 14 and over. If, when we chat, you feel I'm not the right person, I will do my very best to signpost you to someone who might be a better fit.
