Sharlene | Humanistic Psychotherapist
Humanistic Psychotherapy Derby
Are you feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or struggling to make sense of who you are?
Living with the weight of trauma, emotional intensity, or the challenges of neurodivergence can sometimes leave you questioning your worth and feeling like you don’t quite fit in. You may find yourself battling shame, struggling to manage relationships, or trying to carry pain that feels invisible to others.
As a compassionate, humanistic therapist, I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you can begin to untangle these experiences and reconnect with yourself. I specialise in supporting women, and those who identify as neurodivergent, to navigate the challenges of ADHD, late diagnosis, trauma, and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
About me
Hi, I’m Sharlene. My passion is working with people who have often felt dismissed, misunderstood, or pathologised; especially women navigating the complexities of identity, trauma, and neurodivergence.
Alongside my private practice, I have worked in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), supporting young people in severe mental health crisis. This experience has deepened my understanding of how overwhelming distress can be, not only for the person experiencing it but also for those around them. It has taught me the importance of attunement, patience, and creating safety, even in the most turbulent moments.
Through my own journey of self-discovery and my clinical training, I understand how isolating it can feel to not see your experiences reflected or validated. I aim to create a therapeutic relationship where you are truly heard, understood, and supported as the unique person you are.
How I can help
Together, we can work to:
-
Heal from trauma and shame
Making sense of painful experiences and learning to reconnect with your emotions in a safe, supported way. -
Understand your neurodivergent identity
Exploring what an ADHD or late diagnosis means for you and finding ways to embrace, rather than mask, your authentic self. -
Navigate intense emotions and relationships
Drawing on my CAMHS experience, I can hold space for emotional intensity, crisis, and relational sensitivity, while helping you find steadier ways of coping and connecting. -
Rebuild self-worth and identity
Moving from self-doubt and criticism towards acceptance, confidence, and clarity about who you are.
My approach is humanistic and trauma-informed. This means that rather than focusing on what is “wrong” with you, I focus on your lived experience, your strengths, and your capacity to grow and heal. I integrate person-centred, Gestalt, and existential ideas, always working at your pace.

Specialisations and Expertises
Specialisation
My work focuses on supporting people through experiences of trauma, PTSD, and complex emotional distress, with a particular emphasis on how these difficulties affect identity, relationships, and self-worth. I have experience with both adolescents and adults, including those who are neurodivergent, and I understand how challenges such as ADHD and autism can shape emotional regulation, sense of self, and relationships.
I frequently work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, shame, or low mood, as well as those who are struggling with self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or relational difficulties. My approach is compassionate, trauma-informed, and grounded in humanistic practice, which means I focus on your lived experience and personal strengths rather than labels or symptoms.
Therapy with me is flexible: some clients benefit from short-term work (6–12 sessions) to address specific issues, while others prefer open-ended therapy that allows for deeper exploration, healing, and long-term growth. Sessions are 50 minutes, offered online or in person, and paced to your needs.
