Nina | Integrative Counsellor (MBACP)

Introduction

Are you struggling with low mood or anxiety?

Do you feel overwhelmed or like life is too hard?

Maybe you feel lonely even in a room full of people?

Perhaps you feel there is something "wrong" with you?

Or like nobody could possibly understand how you feel?

I welcome a diverse range of clients, offering a safe space for you to come just as you are. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

About me

Hi. I'm Nina. I'm a BACP-Registered integrative counsellor.

I can offer counselling and therapy services for:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Self-esteem/identity issues
  • Relationships
  • Motherhood
  • And more…

How I can help:
  • Compassion-led therapy that gets you results.
  • Weekly, fortnightly, and one-off/ad hoc sessions available.
  • Both online from the comfort of your own home (UK only) or face to face in Dartford, Kent.

A session with me provides:

  • A safe, confidential & non-judgemental space for you to come just as you are.
  • A space to be authentic.
  • A space to be gentle.
  • The freedom to say things you can’t say to others.
  • Compassion, warmth, and a space to breathe.

How it works:

  • We can work together to explore where you are at right now, how you got here, and how to get you to where you want to be.
  • During our work together, I will invite you to look inwards – with each session, we can look deeper than just beneath the surface. We can look deeper into who you are, and where you might be feeling stuck, blocked or confused.
  • We can approach this without judgement or shame, but with curiosity, and kindness.
  • Some questions we reflect on might be: "how have you been feeling lately?", "what do you think might be causing this feeling?",“what has changed for you recently?”,"is there something you find challenging about yourself or your situation?", “what do you like/dislike about yourself?”, “who are you at your core?", "what is it that people don't understand about you or what you are going through?"...
  • In your sessions we can gently explore personal aspects of what is going on for you right now, who you feel that you are, how you relate to others, how others relate to you, and what parts or roles you play in your life. We can also look at your thought patterns, narratives, and inner scripts to give you real and tangible access to awareness/change.
  • Once we find out the answers to some of these questions, we can work towards getting you to where you want to be, and help you to move forward.

Unlike the NHS, I offer open-ended therapy, meaning that there is no strict limit on the number of sessions you can have with me. We will work together to find a number that is right for you.

I am trained to work integratively. This means that I can draw on several different theories and approaches in our sessions together, and I tailor the session to you. In this way, we can work flexibly to find the best way for you. Sometimes we might talk about the past to discover how you came to be the person that you are today. Sometimes we will look at the present – what is going on for you right now? And sometimes we will look at creating goals for the future, and breaking these down to be more manageable.

The beauty in the way that I work is that it is completely centred around you and what you bring to the sessions, and the ways in which you are comfortable working with me. Some of the approaches I may use include person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, or other.

Training, qualifications & experience

A bit about me

Many years ago, I was going through a really tough time, and I decided to try out counselling for the first time. I was amazed at how helpful I found it. This led me to start working in mental health services and eventually train as a counsellor.

I now hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and am currently doing further training for my Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

I also have a certificate in online and telephone counselling, and a certificate of proficiency from the BACP.

I love learning, and I am always trying to learn as many ways as possible to help others.

In the past, I have worked within an NHS counselling setting and a few private counselling organisations.

Most common issues I support people with:

I can help with:

ANXIETY

Anxiety is a natural response to stress, or when you feel threatened or afraid. It's our body's way of ensuring that we survive by enducing the "fight or flight" mode during certain situations. But sometimes anxiety can become unmanageable. Sometimes you can feel "on alert" even when those stressors aren't currently present. You may find yourself constantly worrying, or even when you try to be calm and not think about what's worrying you, your body feels stuck in that "high-alert" state of being. You may be hypervigilent wherever you go, always scanning for danger. You may be sitting with all of the "what-if" questions. And this may feel overwhelming, suffocating, and exhausting.

They say anxiety encompasses worrying about the future, based on your experiences from the past. In my practice, I help you understand the physiological and cognitive roots of your distress. By integrating evidence-based strategies with a compassionate look into your triggers, we can work together to dismantle the cycle of hypervigilance, and help you to develop effective coping strategies to help you manage your current state of being. My goal is to help you reclaim a sense of grounded agency and calm in your daily life.

DEPRESSION

Living with depression can feel like walking around with a constant dark cloud above you. It can feel like a type of heaviness, like life feels too much, or like getting out of bed is too hard. Depression can often lead onto thoughts around no one understanding what you are going through or that people would be better off without you. Depression can feel like real torment and suffering. I approach depression with kindness, compassion, and a helping hand to see you through this difficult time in your life. I help you rediscover your internal resources and build a sustainable path toward hope and reconnection with yourself. I help you to see a light at the end of the tunnel, when all you may see is darkness.

Depression can be deep and feel hopeless, or it can be as simple as something feeling "off", or losing interest in people and activities you used to enjoy. However depression feels to you, please know you are not alone, and you can come out the other side.

SELF-ESTEEM / IDENTITY ISSUES

Your worth isn't up for debate. I help you peel back societal expectations to meet the authentic, empowered version of yourself. The way you view yourself is the blueprint for every experience you have, yet that blueprint is often distorted by past narratives or societal expectations. I specialize in helping you peel back the layers of "shoulds" to uncover an authentic sense of identity and inherent worth. By challenging deep-seated core beliefs and addressing the "inner critic," I guide you through the profound work of self-reclamation. Clients can leave my sessions feeling more aligned with who they truly are.

RELATIONSHIPS

My work in this area focuses on identifying the unconscious patterns and communication barriers that lead to disconnection and conflict. Whether you are navigating a specific crisis or seeking to deepen intimacy, we can work together to transform cycles of reaction into moments of genuine connection, ensuring your relationships become a source of strength rather than a source of stress. We can look at attachment styles, love languages, communication methods, past relationships, upbringing, stressful life events, and your thought patterns and behaviours to gain a clearer picture of what is going for you in your relationships with others.

Maybe somebody not texting you back feels like deep rejection? Or maybe you leave relationships before they get too deep? Perhaps you feel torn between the needs of your partner vs what you feel you need? We can look at all of this to shed some light on what is happening, to restore some clarity instead of confusion, and to help you move forward.

MOTHERHOOD

It’s okay to admit it’s hard. I offer a non-judgmental space to navigate the beautiful, messy transition of becoming and being a mother. Whether that's during the trying to concieve period, during pregnancy, post-birth, the "fourth trimester", or during any stage of motherhood - from toddlers to teenagers, there's always something that can feel overwhelming, and I'm here to help you process that. I am a mum myself so I can really relate to lots of things that my clients say or feel.

Motherhood is not all sunshine and rainbows. It can be hard, frustrating, exhausting, mixed in with moments of joy, and fulfillment. It can be a complete rollercoaster being a mum. I have worked with women who want to process their birth story, difficult pregnancy, pregnancy loss, fertility issues, navigating the transition into motherhood, and also during the "battle" of motherhood as well. I also work for a charity for women who have/have had severe pregnancy sickness. Wherever you are in your journey into motherhood, we can navigate through it together, one step at a time.

Fees

Counselling is thought to be most effective when sessions are held on a weekly basis (at the same date and time each week). However, as this may not be accessible for everyone, I offer weekly, fortnightly, or one-off/ad-hoc sessions to suit you.

My fee is £50 per counselling session. This is payable in advance each week prior to the session taking place. Concessionary rates may be available - please contact me for more details.

As a starting point, I offer a free initial phone call.
This is not a counselling session. More like an information gathering session (for the both of us!). During the call, you can ask me any questions you have about my counselling and therapy services, and I would ask you some questions to gain a better understanding of what you're looking for. From there, you can decide how you would like to proceed. If you would like to book your free initial phone call with me, you can click the "send a message" button. There is no such thing as a silly question, and I will come back to you as soon as possible.
