Melanie | Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Introduction

If you are reading this then you are taking that first, possibly scary, but important step towards talking to someone else about what is troubling you.  It may be that life is feeling overwhelming and causing you anxiety, or leaving you flat and without purpose. Something unexpected may have happened in your life or you could be finding life changes hard to face. We then tend to withdraw from others, lose connection, and feel isolated.  We often don't want to worry other family members or friends as they often have their own problems and/or busy lives.  Our thoughts then become dominant and we ruminate constantly, unable to escape the catastrophising possibilities.

However, we all need to connect to others, and a relationship of trust with your counsellor can help you to feel secure enough to explore your emotions and thoughts to gain insights into how you may bring about change.  We naturally strive to fulfill our potential, to progress, and to live a more satisfying life, so the answers are within you - you are the expert on you.  Being with someone who is impartial, non-judgemental and supportive can encourage you and empower you to face your challenges and shift perspectives.  It may take time, and it definitely requires some commitment, but it can lead to positive changes.

Specialisations and Expertises

The number of sessions required varies according to individual needs.  Sometimes just one session can lead to a shift, an unburdening, some lightness.  I check in after each session to make sure that you are getting what you need from the work we are doing.  Counselling requires commitment and there are no magic solutions.  I do not advise or direct but work with you as you explore what is troubling you and finding your own answers.

Most common issues I support people with:

I have worked with a wide range of issues, including: anxiety; depression; relationship; changes in life such as peri-menopause/menopause, retirement and divorce; grief, and past childhood trauma.  I offer short term and long term therapy.

Fees

My fee for one hour is £55.  I do offer concessions for students.  Cancellation fees apply if notice is not given within 48 hours.

I offer a free introductory brief call to see if you think you would feel comfortable working together as the relationship with the therapist/counsellor is key to change.  If you are happy to continue we would then arrange a regular time each week.
