Counselling Whitstable

My Practice:

I am a Person-Centred counsellor and member of the BACP. Being a Person-Centred counsellor means I work side by side with you, helping you to find your own way forward and empowering you to make decisions and positive changes for yourself. My work is very much focussed on providing a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in your own time and at your own pace.

I can offer both short or long-term therapy to suit your needs, with my warm and approachable style aiming to forge the best possible client-counsellor relationship. In my experience this positive relationship can be the most important part of the counselling process.

I have previously worked at a charity offering low cost counselling to people in need and a local 6th form college with 16-18 year olds so I have extensive experience working with all sorts of issues including workplace stress, family relationships, young carers, trauma, bereavement, and many other difficulties that life throws at us.

I have a calm and peaceful home office for our work which is on the ground floor, please contact me for more information on accessibility if this is one of your needs. I can also offer walk and talk therapy in which we walk a short route using nature and the outdoors as part of the therapeutic process. Walking side by side whilst talking can help some people to feel more relaxed than being face to face, so if this is you or you would like to try a session outdoors, please do get in touch.

How I  work:

I like to offer my clients the space and time they need to explore their thoughts and feelings, whilst I ask questions and we get to know each other. Together we start to understand deeper patterns and thought processes that may have been hidden beneath the surface and as trust and understanding build we start to explore new ways of thinking and processing emotions.

Sometimes I may offer more practical techniques such as grounding exercises and challenging negative self-beliefs, and at other times I will simply be with you whilst you experience whatever you need to experience, guiding you through the process of recognising and feeling your emotions in a safe environment.

I offer an initial free 20 minute phone call in which I tell you a little bit about counselling and what you can expect and I find out more about you and your needs. There is no obligation to proceed with sessions after this phone call, you have to find the right person for you and it is essential that I ensure I have the right training for your particular requirements.

If we decide to proceed with counselling after this phone call we will discuss the time and place for sessions and I will send you some further information. Our first session will be spent understanding in more detail what has brought you to counselling and your aims, as well as answering any questions you may have.

Online therapy

I use google meets for my online therapy practice. I will send you the link before our session and submit you to the waiting room and then into the meeting at the agreed time of out session. I will be in my private counselling room and I ask that you are in a safe and private space where you feel comfortable and able to talk with openness, this is to ensure you can get the most out of your counselling session. I will ask for emergency contact details and to know where you are so that should something occur (such as a sudden medical emergency) I can get you the help you need. Sessions are 50 minutes.
