Gilly | Counsellor

Introduction

I offer an integrative approach to counselling which means that I draw on a lot of different models and theories, all of which help me to help you understand yourself and your patterns of behaviour/emotions and why you might feel or behave in certain ways which can at times feel unhelpful, overwhelming and challenging.

I can help you to identify triggers and how to manage these. I will be interested in your family of origin, your childhood experiences, what unhelpful beliefs and values you inherited, how you see yourself, your roles and identity and what unhelpful things you might tell yourself. I help you to understand different parts of yourself and to embrace yourself as a whole, to treat yourself with kindness, compassion and understanding.

We will think about ways to help you calm yourself and feel more equipped to deal with the challenges you face.

I see our work as a collaborative process where we are both trying to understand you as a person at a deeper level always with the ultimate goal of being able to live your life more fully and be more at peace.

Online therapy

I use Zoom for online sessions. This can be flexible in terms of the hours I can offer.
I also work face to face in Hitchin on Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Specialisations and Expertises

I have worked since 2013 with many individuals where we have explored many different issues. I have worked in a Women's centre, an addiction clinic and a secondary school as well as having my own private practice. I always suggest we have an introductory session where we see if we are a good 'fit', I can assess whether I feel able to help you and you can see how I work. It is important that you feel that I am the right person for you to work with as the counselling relationship plays an important role in our work together.

I am interested in our exploring different parts of you and the relationship you have with yourself. I aim to work with you at a pace that is right for you and encourage you to bring to the session anything that is troubling you so we can pull it apart together in the hope it will lead to a better understanding and approach. I habe worked with a lot of anxiety, depression, trauma, challenging family dynamics, loss and bereavement, stuggles with low self-esteem and boundaries.

We can have a set number of sessions or we can work in an open ended capacity. I will check in with you periodically to see if you feel you are getting what you need from our sessions. I see our work together as something that brings about a deeper understanding of self and a developed ability to look after yourself throughout life and the challenges it presents.

Most common issues I support people with:

Loss/grief
Family relationships
Depression and anxiety
Trauma
Stress

Fees

I charge £60 for a fifty minute session. I do take into account lower incomes and we can negotiate a lower fee if that feels appropriate.
