Counselling Oxford

I am an integrative counsellor and coach, working with adults and young people in East Oxford or online. I meet you where you are on your journey, from beginning to speak your truth, to rebalancing your conflicts, to making and sustaining important changes. My specialities include but are not limited to: culture shock, chronic pain, cultivating your creativity, LGBT issues, including non-traditional relationship styles.

In looking for a counsellor, you have already done important work in noticing your need and exploring your options - the next step is reaching out. When you get in touch I will offer an introductory call, which you can use to ask questions and we can decide together how to work at the pace that suits you.

Working as a counsellor and a coach means I can offer more practical and solution-focused work, as well as a safe, supportive space to share, depending on what you need at this stage in your journey.

I specialise in transitions, be that to a new culture, place or stage of life. I have lived in different parts of Europe and the Middle East, and have experienced needing to uproot and re-plan my life, relationships and career in new circumstances.

I work with anxiety, depression, culture shock and chronic pain (including TSW) among other issues. I also work with writers and artists to explore their creative aspirations and the next steps in their careers.

I conduct my sessions in English, but I also speak French and some Arabic and German.

Online therapy

I schedule online sessions with you using Google Meet. You'll need a quiet space where you will not be overheard or disturbed.

Qualifications and registrations

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have a PGDip in Integrative Counselling and Coaching Diploma from the University of East London.

Specialisations

I work with anxiety, depression, culture shock and chronic pain (including TSW), among other issues. I also work with writers and artists to explore their creative aspirations and the next steps in their careers.

The approaches I draw on include person-centred, solution-focused and psychodynamic.

I offer:
- single session "reset" coaching
- short-term coaching (4-6 sessions) with optional follow-up sessions
- open-ended therapy

All sessions last 50 minutes.

Most common issues I support people with:

1. Anxiety: this can manifest in a range of ways, including catastrophising thoughts, aggressive behaviours, rumination and complusions. Each of these can have different origins and end points, which I help to explore and put into practice. I subscribe to the existential view that anxiety is a natural part of the human condition and that it should be met with kindness.

2. Culture shock: the excitement-fear-disillusionment-acceptance cycle of moving to a new place is one I know first-hand, and I am experienced in helping people take the first steps of moving to a new place, including to my own country and culture.

3. Chronic pain conditions: many people with chronic pain find the psychological side of their experience is not adequately supported, despite there being a great deal of research about the links between mental and physical wellbeing. I help people to pay attention to their unique experience of and reaction to pain and help with making the changes they want to see in their lives.

4. LGBT issues and non-monogamy: I am a fully affirmative practitioner and provide a safe-space to explore hard-to-voice feelings and experiences as a result of being 'non-normative'.

5. Childhood trauma: this shows up in different ways and looking into painful parts of the past can be painful and take time. We are not here to place blame or try to change what cannot be changed, only to change your relationship to what happened so it does not keep you trapped. I work using inner child work and IFS.

I charge £50 for online work and £60 for in-person work.
