Samantha | Counsellor/Psychotherapist

Counselling and Psychotherapy Aylesbury

Hello, my name is Samantha, I am an integrative counsellor (meaning I work by incorporating several therapeutic theories) with a relational approach.

I work with people of all ages from young people aged 11, to retirees. I can offer to work in either a Person-Centred way or in an Integrative way, bringing in CBT, Transactional analysis, Gestalt and Psychodynamic approaches. We can work together on an open-ended basis or agree on how many sessions from the start with specific goals and structured techniques.

My aim is to provide, a counselling space that will endeavour to create a supportive environment in which you will be given the time and space to explore, understand and gain insight into your unique situation.
I offer you my honesty and respect while we explore anything you feel you would like to bring to counselling.

You might have experienced feelings that are unexpected, painful and/or disorientating, leaving you feeling confused and unsettled. The sessions are about you and your feelings, and my hope is that by providing you with a safe environment, you will have the freedom to explore and work through your thoughts and feelings; to enable you to identify and resolve issues, leaving you more confident, positive and poised to enjoy life.

Life can throw some really difficult situations at us and when this happens, it can be difficult to stay positive and cope with everyday life. I believe that counselling should provide you with an opportunity to explore any personal difficulties in a confidential, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. I work with people with either general or specific issues, both in the short term or over a longer term as appropriate.

Specialisations and Expertises

I have experience of working with children and young people with issues around identity and supporting them through the transition of parental separations, bereavement and traumatic events or complex traumas arising life event.

I have a background working with young people, along-side my private practice. I work for a local charity working with young people aged 13-25. My experience working within Youth Concern has enabled me to develop my understanding and skills in risk management relating to depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation. Within my work at Youth Concern, I work with several different organisations and individuals, including School Liaison Offices, CAMHS and Social Services. Managing these ‘non-client’ relationships provides me with valuable experience, helping me put ethical theory into practice.

I have worked with the complex feelings around living with, and moving on from relationship difficulties, sexual and domestic abuse, sexual and gender identity, anxiety and bereavement. I appreciate how hard it can be to seek support when you are either in or trying to move on from a difficult or complex relationship.

I have training and experience working with people to offer support during this transition. I worked with a diverse range of issues including, life changes and loss, work or exam stresses, pressure of transition, sexual/physical health issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, substance dependency, anger management and family or relationship problems.

Most common issues I support people with:

Anxiety,
Suicidal ideation/Self Harm,
Identity or Transitions
Work or Educational Stress
Grief/Loss

I offer an initial informal chat normally over the phone, which will give us an opportunity to discuss your needs and whether you think that working together is going to be right for you.

My rate is £65 per session. I can sometimes offer concessions for those on a low income or counselling students, this can be discussed in person. We can work together on an open-ended basis or agree on how many sessions from the start.
