Leah | Counsellor/Psychotherapist
Counselling and Psychotherapy Harrogate
Hi, I’m Leah, and I’m a qualified counsellor and therapist based in Harrogate, offering in-person and online therapy. I work with anyone needing a space to explore their difficulties or stresses, whether that is navigating big life transitions, relationships or identity struggles and I specialise in supporting women experiencing anxiety.
My approach is gentle, collaborative, and tailored to you. Together, we’ll explore what’s underneath your anxiety or low mood—not just to manage symptoms, but to support lasting change and emotional growth whether you are navigating big life transitions, relationships, or identity struggles.
You can see me in person in Harrogate, or online from the comfort of your own space—wherever feels safest for you.
If you’re ready to take that first step, or even just curious, I’d love to hear from you.
I created my practice to be a calm, non-judgmental supportive space where you can begin to untangle the overwhelm, self-doubt, and pressure that often come with anxiety or feeling low. Whether you’re feeling stuck in a cycle of overthinking, struggling with confidence, or simply finding it hard to cope day-to-day, you don’t have to go through it alone.
My approach
As an integrative therapist, this means I am able to draw on a blend of approaches depending on your needs, working at your own pace. This includes:
- Person-Centred Therapy – which means it is all about you! I believe that you are the expert on your own life and that everyone, with the right support, can grow
- Transactional Analysis (TA) – to help you understand patterns in how you relate to yourself and others
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – to recognise and gently challenge anxious thoughts and build tools for managing anxiety
- as well as skills from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) that can help you learn how to be assertive and place your boundaries
I work with people of all ages, but especially those navigating early adulthood, identity struggles, life transitions, and self-worth challenges. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning to it, I’ll meet you with empathy and care.
About me
I was inspired to work supporting people with anxiety after experiencing my own anxiety as a teenager. I have worked at Mind in Harrogate for 5 years where I provide mental health support and run peer support groups in anxiety, neurodivergence and complex emotional needs as well as counselling.
As a dancer myself, I have also enjoyed working with the Northern School of Contemporary Dance providing counselling to university students managing the transition to young adulthood and pressures of university life, particularly within the context of the dance world.
My self-care looks like dancing, roller-skating, reading or crafting!
What to expect
It can be daunting to take that first step, feel free to reach out with any questions
I offer a free 20 minute phone or video call where we can have a chance to get to know each other and you can get a sense of if I am the right therapist for you. I will also share with you my contract so you can understand all the practicalities of our counselling relationship
In the first session, you don’t have to have it all figured out! We will mostly spend the time getting to know each other and working out together what your goals might be, We will work at your pace and I always tell people even if we have planned to do something in a session and you come and say “actually I need to rant about my boss”, guess what? We’re talking about your boss!
