Introduction
--- Online therapy only ---
Why does nothing ever seem to work for you? If old patterns keep tripping you up in relationships, work, or anxiety, there may be a part of you that got left behind in childhood — and I specialise in helping it grow up.
Anxiety is often what brings people to therapy first. Early on, I teach a simple, practical breathing technique — no meditation needed — that calms your nervous system in real time. Clients often say this alone makes a real difference.
I specialise in working with adults carrying the weight of childhood experiences — sometimes major trauma, sometimes the quieter kind that’s harder to name. Often a part of us gets left behind: the rest of us grows up, but that younger part stays frozen in old patterns of protection and relating.
I also work with people who feel disconnected from others or from their own feelings, and who worry that’s not acceptable to say out loud.
What I care about most is reaching the younger part of you directly — not just talking about it from a distance, but finding out what it needs and what it’s been holding onto. I meet people where they are. Sometimes that means a lot of silence and gentleness. Sometimes it means something more playful or creative.
When anxiety is part of the picture, I’ll explain what’s actually happening in your nervous system and teach you something practical to calm it in real time — clients often tell me this alone makes a real difference, even before the deeper work begins.
I’ve done this work myself — the parts work, the preverbal work, the slow business of learning to trust — so I understand it from the inside. One client told me I helped them see that trauma doesn’t have to be a life sentence. That’s what I want for you too.
You don’t need to have it figured out before you come. You just need to be willing to show up.
What clients say:
“Margaret has a way of making me feel valued and acceptable. I have made significant progress in getting to know and accept myself, after a lifetime of not doing so.” — Client, 70s
“She has really helped me deal with difficult issues and to understand where they originate from. Empathetic, insightful and considerate.” — Client
How I work
My core training is psychodynamic and person-centred, with additional training in preverbal work for experiences that happened before words. I draw on whichever of these fits what you need in any given moment, rather than fitting you into one fixed method.
I am GSRD affirming (gender, sexual and relationship diversity) and neurodivergent affirming, with personal experience of ADHD and training in working with ADHD and autistic clients — so I won’t approach you from a neurotypical standpoint.
I work exclusively online with adults across the UK.

Whilst my therapy has lasted a good while, there are few sessions we have where nothing very significant emerges. I find most sessions helpful. Margaret is skilled in helping me explore my feelings in a way which is not threatening. I have made significant progress in getting to know and accept myself, after a lifetime of not doing so. I am over 70 now.
Margaret has a way of making me feel valued and acceptable. She gives me enough information about herself for me to appreciate she has personal experience of many of the issues I bring to therapy, but she is wholly focused on me and not on herself. Her willingness to admit vulnerability enhances the therapeutic experience,
I realise it is quite difficult to describe my experience in therapy and do it justice. Perhaps it is sufficient to say that I consider myself very lucky indeed to be having therapy with Margaret.
I appreciate that objectivity is never easy in any therapy relationship, but all I can say is that I am aware of this and generally think I am a person with his feet on the ground!
