Kathrine | Therapeutic Counsellor
Introduction
I provide therapeutic counselling to individuals and clinical supervision for other counsellors. My approach is humanistic, with a strong foundation in person-centred therapy and incorporating useful parts of other humanistic therapies such as gestalt therapy, transactional analysis and existential therapy. You are entirely at the heart of sessions.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I view people's difficulties as being a consequence of something that has happened to them, rather than something that is 'wrong' with them. I have completed EMDR therapy training, which provided me with a solid framework for working with trauma, as well as providing an excellent understanding of what trauma is and how it impacts us.
My aim has always been to be able to offer a non-clinical, inclusive, relaxed, ethical therapeutic counselling service to anyone looking for therapy without any lengthy waiting times or limit to the amount of sessions. Sessions can be short term, long term or open-ended.
You are invited to explore your thoughts with me, and to process difficult and/or traumatic emotions and experiences.
I view counselling as a partnership between us both, where we will be working together on your emotional healing. I will strive to provide the right conditions to enable you to address and deal with whatever it is that is causing you emotional distress, with the hope that you will leave feeling encouraged and more able to thrive.
You will be offered non-judgemental, sturdy emotional support at all times. I am ready, willing and able to work at great psychological depth, at your pace, in your time.
There are so many different reasons why you may be considering counselling. Whether it's from your past, present or future, for example something specific that you've experienced like a traumatic incident or a huge life change, your current set of circumstances, or a fear of something in your predicted future. Or it may be a non-specific thing that you just can't put your finger on but is affecting how you currently feel.
With a warm, respectful and down-to-earth, my hope is that you will feel very much at ease talking to me about anything.
Whatever you reason for coming along, counselling can be challenging at times, you may experience some difficult emotions in the process. But more importantly it can be empowering, enlightening and life-changing.
Online therapy
In 2020, life shifted, and the Covid-19 lockdowns brought forth the need for everyone to work differently, and it was wonderful that people could still access therapy at a time when many needed it more than ever!
It has become abundantly clear that online therapy is, paradoxically, similar to and different from face-to-face therapy, and remains the choice of many, which is why I continue to provide it. It has been said that sessions online can actually feel more intimate, and for some, allow for more depth.
Sessions online with me are via Google Meet. I simply send you a meeting link on the morning of your session and you click it, then we are in session.
All I ask is that you find a quiet, private space to talk during your online session, where you won't be interrupted or overheard, then grab a cuppa, and maybe a blanket, and then we can start.
