Psychodynamic Counselling Tunbridge Wells

Therapy is a collaborative approach. There is no advice or agenda.

I work with how your past experiences and relationships have shaped your internal world. I also help you explore your unconscious mind's affect on negative thought patterns - your thoughts unknown.

My work with adults covers a broad range of presenting problems where psychodynamic therapy can be helpful.

This can include: parenting or relationship issues, family conflict, bereavement and grief, significant life changes including menopause, adverse childhood experiences and trauma, relationship to food, self-esteem, shame, anger and managing stress.

My work with adults is open-ended as it can take time to heal and allow ourselves to explore emotional depths we have kept hidden. By keeping a time fixed for you each week enables you to come to therapy for as long as it feels useful to you.

I also work with young people (16 years/Year 12+) struggling with low mood, emotional dysregulation and self-injurious behaviours.

Qualifications and registrations

It is extremely important that you are assured that the therapist you choose is appropriately qualified. I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and abide by their ethical framework and code of conduct. To become a member I qualified on a three year BACP accredited course and abide by their requirements for ongoing supervision and continuing professional development.

Specialisations and Expertises

Psychodynamic therapy is usually weekly and is structured as an open-ended therapy. This means that you can remain in therapy for as long as it is useful to you. If you wish to work in a brief-focused way, e.g. for a maximum of 12 sessions, this can be discussed at assessment.

Most common issues I support people with:

Anxiety and low mood
Family conflict including relationship breakdown and parenting issues. (Therapy is for individuals)
Bereavement and grief
Stress, particularly work-place
Work with teenagers (16+) can include low mood, anxiety, self-harming behaviours, school based avoidance, exam stress.

Fees

I charge £60 per session. Each session is 50 minutes long.

In our first session we will discuss if psychodynamic counselling is right for you and if we are a good 'fit' for each other. This assessment session is charged at £45.

My counselling room is a comfortable and quiet space in the centre of Tunbridge Wells. (2 min walk from the station). Please note the room is on the 1st floor.

I also offer sessions online.

I offer concessionary rates for those on low income and trainee counsellors.
