(Online) Adult and Pet Bereavement Counselling

I offer a safe space for you to explore your feelings free from judgement

Hello, I am Helen and I offer both short and long term counselling online or by telephone. As a person centred counsellor I aim to build a solid therapeutic relationship with you, in which you will be heard, welcomed and accepted. This is offered to you within a safe, non-judgemental place for you.

I am a BACP registered counsellor and also a registered member of the Association of Pet Bereavement Counsellors supporting those grieving the loss of their companion animal. In addition to my private practice, I work with an established BACP accredited organization in the north-west, providing therapy for adults.

Life is constantly changing. We all encounter highs and lows, coping, learning, recovering, and finding joy along the way. Yet, there are moments when you might feel more anxious, sad, and isolated than ever before.

You may be here due to struggling with a bereavement, relationship issues, stress at work, or a life transition and you have noticed how it is impacting your day-to-day life and those around you. It might be difficult for you to manage and you could be feeling alone, lost, and struggling to navigate all the emotions you may be feeling.

You may have lost your animal 'your companion' and finding it hard to process the loss and life without them.  Perhaps you are living with the anticipation of losing them after a diagnosis. Your relationship with them is so unique and you may be alone, feeling that people might not understand.

Whatever you would like to explore, as a person centred counsellor I will offer you a safe and confidential space in which to navigate through those feelings. I will offer you empathy and acceptance and you will be heard.

My counselling approach encourages self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal growth, empowering you to make positive changes in your life based on your own values and goals. Without directing you I will help you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. By focusing on your unique perspective and needs,  you can gain insight, self-awareness, and clarity. In turn, this will bring about personal growth, empowerment, and emotional healing. I am here to support you.

Specialisations

I have experience of working with clients with a range of presenting issues, such anxiety, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem, loss of confidence, relationship and family issues, work related changes and challenges. I have specific experience of working with bereavement. I have offered support to clients at various stages of grief.

I am also deeply committed to supporting individuals coping with the loss of their beloved animal companions or dealing with anticipatory grief after a diagnosis. In addition to my counselling approach, I am available to address any specific questions or concerns you may have. I am a registered Association of Pet Bereavement Counsellors member and adhere to their ethical framework.

Most common issues I support people with:

Anxiety, sadness, depression: Challenges with relationships (personal, family, friendships), retirement, changes at work etc... can cause us to experience some or of all of these feelings and emotions. You may be able to identify the source and equally you may not be able to. There may be a combination of different things happening in your life. Within our sessions we can explore these and bring into your awareness why you are feeling this way and help you to find solutions.

Loneliness:
You may have been lonely for a long time or you may suddenly find yourself alone - whatever the reason, being alone can be challenging and can affect anyone, at anytime, and at any stage of life. Sometimes we can be surrounded by others or be in a relationship and still feel alone.  Together we can look at why you feel alone, how can you change it and what will work for you.

Bereavement:
The loss of a significant person in your life is profound. We experience so many emotions and feelings and each day can be very different  to the next. Often we may not understand if what we are feeling is normal. It is an event we will all experience at some point.  I can help support you during this time.  I also offer support to you if you have lost your companion animal, a loss that many can feel they need to keep silent, to carry the grief alone. You might have specific questions you want to ask surround the loss or anticipated loss of your animal, and alongside my counselling approach I can help with the answers you may need.

Self esteem and loss of confidence:
A range of factors may influence how we see ourselves and this can happen at any stage of our lives. We can 'lose' ourselves, and you may be struggling to find who you are again.
