Debi | Counsellor
Introduction
Sometimes people come to therapy knowing exactly what they want to say. More often they know only that something is not right. Either way, that is a perfectly good place to start.
I am Deb, a qualified counsellor and BACP member based in East Yorkshire, working with individuals and couples online and in person.I hold an MSc in Counselling at Level 7 postgraduate level and I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, registered with ICEEFT, and hold ASIST and Mental Health First Aid accreditations.
My background is not just academic. For many years I was a senior director with a big job and constant travel, always the person holding everything together for everyone else. I know what that particular exhaustion feels like. The kind that comes from being relied upon by everyone and really known by almost no one. That lived experience shapes the way I work. I do not show up with a script. I am direct, warm and genuinely engaged, not the blank-faced nodding type.
I work across a range of areas including burnout and midlife transition, redundancy and career identity loss, grief and loss, couples counselling using an EFT approach, anxiety and low mood, menopause and blended family life. I also work with people navigating domestic abuse and the things that are hard to name but still worth bringing.
What I offer is not a formula. It is a proper conversation in a space that is genuinely yours. I will not tell you what to do or where you should be in your process. I will help you make sense of what you are carrying.
Sessions are available online and in person in East Yorkshire. I offer a free 20 minute consultation with no paperwork and no commitment, just a conversation to see whether working together feels right.
I know how hard it is to find time when life is full. I offer early morning, evening and Saturday appointments so therapy does not become another thing that does not fit.

Online therapy
I offer online sessions via Zoom to clients across the UK. Online therapy works in exactly the same way as in-person sessions. You join a secure video call from wherever you feel comfortable.Sessions are 60 minutes. Many clients find online therapy easier to fit around work and life, and just as effective as face to face.
I also offer early morning, evening and Saturday appointments

Specialisations and Expertises
I specialise in working with adults who are carrying more than they show. This includes burnout and midlife transition, redundancy and career identity loss, grief, menopause, couples work and anxiety.I use an integrative approach drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT registered), person-centred principles and ASIST-informed risk awareness.
Most clients work with me on an open-ended basis, though short-term focused work is also available. Sessions typically run for 60 minutes weekly.
Most common issues I support people with:
1. Couples counselling — I am ICEEFT registered and trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy. I work with couples who have drifted and want to understand each other better and reconnect.2. Burnout and midlife transition — particularly for high achievers who are functioning well externally but feel empty inside. I have lived this myself as a former senior director and understand it from the inside.
3. Redundancy and career identity loss — losing a senior role hits identity, status, self-worth and security all at once. I have personal experience of redundancy and know what it actually feels like.
4. Menopause — I am at this stage myself and understand how disorienting it can be, particularly for women who are used to being capable and on top of things.
5. Grief and loss — whether recent or something carried quietly for years. There is no pressure to be further along than you are.
