Rebecca | Counsellor

Counselling Shrewsbury

Hello, I'm Rebecca, and I'd like to welcome you here today.

I am a warm and caring therapist who uses a person-centred approach. This means that you are at the heart of our work together, and my goal is to focus on your unique needs. I will create a calm, trusting space where you feel accepted and supported. Together, we will explore your emotions and challenges, helping you to find your way forward.

People seek support for many reasons. You might be feeling overwhelmed by emotions such as anxiety, panic, or low mood. Perhaps you’ve gone through difficult or traumatic events, experienced the loss of a loved one, or feel lost and unsure of how to move forward. Sometimes, we don't know what's wrong, yet there’s this persistent feeling that something isn’t right. You feel in a rut and dissatisfied with your life. It's weighing you down, and you notice you're losing motivation and zest for things you used to enjoy.

Whether you’re dealing with complex emotions or painful experiences or simply seeking a deeper sense of purpose, carrying these feelings and experiences can leave you disconnected from yourself and the world. You may feel stuck in a cycle that seems too overwhelming to handle alone.

Together, we will unpack your experiences and emotions, encouraging you to safely process and explore to gain a fresh perspective on life to make positive changes, embrace acceptance when necessary, rebuild your self-confidence and self-esteem and find purpose. As you begin to break free from your repetitive cycles, you'll gain a deeper sense of self-awareness to feel more fulfilled and connected to yourself and the life around you.

Our sessions will always be grounded in trust, allowing you to open up and share safely, free of judgement, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

'I want to thank you so much for your time, Rebecca. This hurt will always be with us, but you have taught me how to deal with it and breathe. Just listening to your voice and talking about everything was a big help...' Client feedback - grief support

If you're wondering whether you and I would connect and work well together, the easiest way to find out is to book a free getting-to-know-you call with me with no obligation to book. It will give you a sense of what therapy with me is all about. We can talk about how I can best help you; please feel free to ask me questions if you'd like to and see if you feel comfortable talking with me. To get in touch please send me a message via the Send a message - button.

No matter what you bring or are going through, I'm here to support you. I look forward to talking with you.

Rebecca

Online therapy

Working Online Together

I have a special interest in online therapy and can offer flexible scheduling for my sessions to make support more accessible to those seeking help. You can book sessions on different days or times, either weekly or fortnightly, to accommodate your schedule, especially if you can’t commit to a set day or time.

Telephone Counselling

With many years of experience providing online and telephone support, I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for my clients. They reflect how they find my voice trustworthy and calming, which helps them feel relaxed—something I genuinely appreciate.

I have worked with many vulnerable clients who struggle with trust in their lives. They arrive in therapy feeling hesitant, questioning if they'll be able to share and open up and unsure if they'll trust the voice they hear. I have consistently built and gained their trust through my gentle approach, resulting in meaningful and successful outcomes. This connection is essential for creating our supportive therapeutic relationship, which forms the foundation of our sessions.

Through the warmth and understanding I bring to my sessions, I will ensure you feel supported in a way that feels right for you.

Specialisations and Expertises

Charity Counselling—As a counsellor, I actively support local charities, collaborating with GP referrals, self-referrals, and our local Social Prescribing Program by providing in-person and remote counselling.

Cruse Bereavement—As a long-term counsellor for Cruse, I specialise in Bereavement Counselling. I provide compassionate support both over the phone, online and in-person for those grappling with the complex stages grief brings to their lives.

Age UK and The Royal Voluntary Service—I supported those who felt most isolated and often lacked any family support and assisted those living with dementia.

How therapy supported me— I've faced my own challenges in life, and when I felt stuck and overwhelmed, I leaned into therapy. It supported me, creating the calm to reconnect with myself during challenging times as I navigated a midlife career change, went through a divorce, faced health issues, and coped with the emotional toll that Parkinson's disease took on a parent, as well as my own late ADHD diagnosis. Therapy guided me through my experiences to accept the changes, reframe my thought process, and find a new sense of self and purpose.

You're not alone in this—many of us are on similar journeys.

.

Session costs: £50 per 50-minute session. I offer some concessions. In-person sessions take place at The Roy Fletcher Centre in Shrewsbury.

  • How to book a session or introductory call: You can book a session immediately, or we can talk together first to help you decide. Please use the contact form or call me to set up your first session or free introductory chat. I will get back to you as soon as possible, always within 24 hours. If I can't answer your call, please leave a voice message using your preferred contact method, and I'll get back to you.

  • Introductory Call: I warmly invite you to arrange a getting-to-know-you call before you decide to begin therapy with me. This will be a relaxed conversation to help you see if my therapy approach feels right for you. Please feel free to take this step without any pressure to book a session afterwards.

  • Online/Phone Therapy: Life can be busy and unpredictable. I can offer flexibility with online and call sessions to fit your schedule. You’re welcome to choose different days or times, whether weekly or every two weeks, to ensure you have the support you need when it's hard to commit to a regular slot.

  • Concessions: I understand that the cost of therapy can be a significant concern for many people, and you are not alone in feeling this way. To help, I offer a range of concession rates individually; there are no set criteria to meet to ask for a concession except for making it affordable and accessible. I am happy to discuss this with you; please let me know if you’d like to consider this before you start therapy.

I recognise that attending therapy in person can be challenging, particularly if health issues make it difficult to go out or if you prefer the comfort and privacy of a call. I'm here to offer understanding and support, ensuring you feel comfortable in a way that suits your needs.

I look forward to welcoming you – and supporting you

Great help

I decided to seek help through therapy due to having low self-esteem and anxiety. This had been heightened by recent events of betrayal in my marriage and family bereavement. I felt that I needed help to navigate my thoughts and have some peace in my head. It's never an easy step to make reaching out for help and acknowledging you have a problem, but once I sent my email to Rebecca and had a 10 minute initial phone call, I felt she was very understanding, showed complete empathy, and was also able to advise me with my thoughts.

I had sessions with Rebecca via zoom, initially I wasn't sure how this would work, but after the first session it felt very comfortable and worked well for me being in my own home and secure setting, but I felt like it was still face to face. Rebecca put me at ease and it was easy to be open and honest with her about my thoughts. She allowed me to speak, but gave advice and navigated the conversations to help me.

I feel that the sessions have helped me to question my negative thoughts and realise I can sit in my emotions. Rebecca has helped me greatly to move forward and allowed me to learn strategies to help my mental health in the future. Thank you.

You have taught me how to deal with it

I want to thank you so much for your time, Rebecca. This hurt will always be with us, but you have taught me how to deal with it and breathe. Just listening to your voice and talking about everything was a big help.
