Counselling Newcastle-under-Lyme

Hello and welcome! Are you looking for a deeper connection with yourself and others? Do you want to feel more confident and self-accepting? Would you like a clearer sense of purpose and direction in your life? My practice is all about nurturing self-compassion, understanding and empowerment.

If you feel held back by certain thoughts and beliefs about yourself, or overwhelmed by distressing emotions such as anxiety or depression, counselling could help.

I believe that ALL emotions are valid and natural responses to lived experiences, including trauma. I aim to offer you a supportive space where you can feel and process your emotions, without judgement or advice.

My hope is that through our work together, you will learn to listen to yourself and discover your own inner capacity to face life's challenges.

As a person-centred counsellor, I take my lead from you. I believe you are the expert on yourself and your life experiences. Offering empathy and warmth, I will listen without judgement, reflect and sometimes prompt or ask questions to help you gain deeper insight into yourself.

I offer online counselling (see below for more info), and in-person counselling which takes place outdoors. Being in nature can be a great way of connecting with yourself. This type of counselling allows you to experience the freedom of being outside, whilst being held within a nurturing space. Physical movement, mindfulness and engaging the senses can all bring shifts in perspectives, creativity and a deeper intuition. I offer outdoor sessions in the beautiful Staffordshire countryside surrounding a village near Newcastle-under-Lyme.

If interested in outdoor work, we would begin with at least one online session to assess suitability and how we can best work together outside. You can also choose to take a hybrid approach of remote and outdoor sessions.

If you would like to know more or book an appointment, please send me a message.

Online therapy

Online (or phone) sessions are convenient options for modern living, giving you more opportunity to fit your sessions around your schedule. They take place regularly online via Zoom- a secure, reliable and user-friendly platform- in your own chosen safe, private space.

With online counselling, I offer the option to work creatively if you are interested. This can be a powerful way to discover and express deep feelings and emotions. I usually suggest we introduce this after a few sessions, so we can build trust and see what themes emerge to explore creatively.

I am trained to deliver counselling online and by phone, and am experienced in both. You may be surprised at the depth of therapeutic relationship that can be built when working in these ways!

Specialisations

I specialise in the area of self-esteem and confidence. I believe that by providing a space where you can be accepted just as you are, you will become more self-accepting and authentic in life. This can often be longer term work, as you unpack core beliefs and work to challenge these and develop new ways of seeing yourself and others. However, short-term counselling can also be effective if you have a specific focus for the work.

The introductory session(s) gives an opportunity to get a feel for whether we would be a good fit, and to discuss your hopes for the work going forward.

Most common issues I support people with:

  • Self-esteem/ confidence
  • Grief and loss
  • Anxiety
  • Finding purpose/direction
  • Neurodivergence
