Andrew | Counsellor

Introduction

I’m a BACP-accredited counsellor working in Brixton, London Bridge and online. I work with people to explore their feelings, thoughts and behaviours to see how they want to respond to challenges in life.

I work with a wide range of clients; the majority are men, and many are LGBT+.

Why people come to sessions with me
People come to counselling for many reasons. Some use sessions to make sense of past events, their current impact, and to look at what they do next.

Others are living their lives based on old ideas of themselves, perhaps editing their way of being to a version that feels palatable to others, but are unsure how to do something different.

And for some, there might not even be clarity on what is going on, but they know something is off in their lives or relationships. Depressed feelings, stress and anxious thoughts often feature as well.

I offer a free half-hour initial appointment to discuss whatever it is that you may bring to sessions, and to see how we could work together.

Working with me
The first time I saw a therapist, I was given lots of space and silence to be with my feelings. Really, it was too much space. I was left feeling unsure what to say, and was left with a vague sense that I was doing therapy - and feelings - wrong.

When I changed to a new therapist, they gave me more structure and prompts to find my way into what was going on with me. After a while, things started to move for me.

While every client is different, I know my experience is something that many others suspect they will find in the counselling room. I aim to create a safe environment where clients have enough structure to talk about what is going on for them.
